Reading Slumps and Life Update

Hey friends! I just wanted to hop on here today and say hello. I was doing so well with posting at the beginning of October then I started reading a book I wasn’t feeling. Now I believe I am again in a reading slump. They have been hitting me really hard this year, maybe it’s that my reading taste have changed and I’m not ready to admit that to myself. This year I’ve found myself gravitating more towards romance books when I am primarily a fantasy reader, however looking back I’ve barely read any fantasy books this year, and that makes me so sad.

Another reason for my book slump, since August I’ve been really getting into k-pop specifically BTS. I’ve fallen in so deep with this band, it’s honestly all I can think about. I’ve been really liking them since I started listening to them but I fell in love with them when I watched the Saudi Arabia concert. Man can these boys perform! Seriously this concert was mind glowingly good, Hobi and Jungkook were really coming for me. Of course the others were fantastic too. I really want to write a whole post about my love for them soon.

I’m really bummed out that I wasn’t able to get to the Apple orchard but work schedules kinda messed that up. Fall is my favorite time of year and this year it seems to be falling a little flat. I haven’t really done anything that I normally like to do. However, next weekend I want to carve pumpkins, and I’m taking the kids to a Halloween themed fundraiser and then to the zoo, so I’m hoping that will be a good weekend. Maybe I’ll throw in some horror movies.

My son turned 13 years old on the 18, and it blows my mind how much he’s grown. He’s almost taller than me, not that I’m that tall anyways but still. I’ve also been having a difficult time with him and his behaviour the past few months and I’m not sure how to improve that. I knew moody teenage years were coming but I wasn’t expecting it to hot so hard.

Back to reading, I’ve only read 4 books this month and I might be able to finish the two I’m currently reading but I can’t see it being more than that. Which bums me out because I had a 12 book tbr. I’m trying not to be to hard on myself there’s still two more months left of the year. I have a bunch of Christmas/holidays books I’ve been saving so maybe I’ll start some of those in November.

How do you deal with reading slumps ?

Are You Ready For Sweater Weather? The Autumn Tag

Hello Friends! I hope your all having a wonderful week. Today I am doing an autumn book tag. I’ve been trying to post more consistently and I fell behind a little last week. But this week I’m thriving, I am so happy it’s October. I am out of my reading slump and I feel more like myself.

Rules: Answer the questions, link back to the creator and tag other people! Tag created by Jennily

1. Hot Chocolate – what is your comfort book?

I’m going to sound so basic but, any of the Harry Potter books. When I read these books it feels like coming home, if I’m in a bad mood reading about my favorites always makes me feel comforted and happy.

2. Pumpkin Carving – what is your favorite creative outlet?

I really love my blog, on wordpress. I mostly post about books, but sometimes I get an idea for something non-bookish and it’s great to have a place to post. I also really love Instagram, even though it can be frustrating at times, there are just so many amazing creative people.

3. Falling Leaves – changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

I hate how big my children are getting, but I love watching them grow and discover the world. My son just turned 13 and he already thinks he’s grown up, there’s some challenges for every age but I’m struggling with his attitude lately. However I love how he tries to figure things out for himself. Emmy is almost 2! She is acting so much more like a kid than a baby, it’s incredible.

4. Pumpkin Spiced Latte – something you love that others tend to judge.

I guess I’ll say reading, a lot of people I meet frown upon reading, which I honestly have never understood. Especially if the book has been made into a movie, people will ask why I’m reading the book when I could just watch the movie.

5. Bonfire Night – what makes you explode with joy?

BTS, I just love this band with my whole heart. I haven’t loved a band like this since One Direction. There music makes me so happy and each member is so talented. Especially Hobi! He is a ray of sunshine ☀️

6. Fright Night – favorite scary book or film

My favorite scary movie will forever be Halloween the 1978 version. And if I had to pick a more recent one it would be The Conjuring. My favorite spooky book is The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager.

7. Halloween candy – favorite thing to eat

I really love turkey dinner! It is my absolute favourite meal. I also love cheesecake, pizza and tacos.

8. Scarves – your autumn ‘must have’ accessory

I love me some good boots and flannels, they are an autumn must!

9. Fire – a book or film that burns your soul

A Court of Mist and Fury will forever be my favourite book, I recommend it to everyone. As for a movie, honestly I would have to say the original Halloween, it just has a special place in my heart.

10. Toffee apples – a book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside

Red white and royal blue- looks like a cute contemporary but it is so much more than that. It’s about acceptance , love and friendship. It is the perfect book.

September Wrap Up

Hello spooky friends! September has been a whirlwind of a month. Noah started grade 8, I can’t believe in a years time he will be starting high school. It just blows my mind, how much he’s grown. September in my mind is the first month of fall, so I’ve been doing some fall crafts with Emmy. We made some pinecone bird feeders, which was a lot of fun. Emmy very much enjoyed eating the peanut butter. The leaves are starting to change here and I’m living for it. Anyways, it was a really good reading month. In August I was in a bad BTS induced reading slump, and I’m glad to say I read a lot more in September. I’m still wrapped up in BTS content but I was able to read thanks to audiobooks.

Books Read in September

1. Queen takes knight – Joely Sue Burkhart

This is a smutty vampire book and honestly that’s all I needed to know. This was really short only 200 pages, and I was honestly so happy when I found out there are more books in the series. It’s not the greatest book of all time but I really enjoyed it. It follows Shara who is on the run from monsters that killed her parents. One night she is surrounded by the monsters when two giant men show up and fends them off, turns out she is there vampire queen. This book is so steamy and she literally is covered in blood.

2. Pumpkinheads – Rainbow Rowell

This graphic novel is so stinking cute, and it just screams fall vibes. The whole atmosphere of the pumpkin patch was very well done, I wanted to jump in and be a part of it. The art is gorgeous and the story is adorable. Deja and Josiah are great characters, and I loved them so much! If your looking for the perfect book to get you in the autumn feels, then you need to pick this up immediately.

3. A Curse so Dark and Lonely –  Bridgid Kremmerer

A Curse So Dark and Lonely is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but it is much darker. I’ve seen this book everywhere and I’ve been really intrigued by it, but also intimidated as it’s very large. This book is so good, I flew through it in just two days, and this boy is quite chunky. I loved every moment. Beauty and the Beast if my favorite fairy tale, and I am so in love with this book.

4.The Raven Boys – Maggie Steivfater

I re read this as an audiobook, which ended up being a bad idea. I often found my mind wandering, it made me so sad. As I loved the book so much when I first read it, this time around I found myself often board. Maybe because I knew what happened or I was coming out if a slump. I did still really love the characters and the whimsical prose.

5. Eclipse – Stephanie Meyer

This of course is the third book in The Twilight series, and it’s also my favorite. There is one scene in this that always gets me, when Jacob is leaving the tent before the fight, every darn time I cry even though I’ve read this book so many times before and know it’s coming, I still cry. I have always been #teamedward, but I also love Jacob and it hits me in the feels. This book in my opinion is the best in the series,

6. The Turn of the Key – Ruth Ware

It’s not secret that Ruth Ware’s books in the past, I’ve rated them all 3 stars. I was never blown away by her writing, but oh boy this book was so good.  I loved it, it freaked me out, gave me chills, I listened to the audiobook at night and I could feel my heart racing. I absolutely loved it and I have really high hoped for her future novels now. This one is about a Nanny who is telling the story from a jail cell, after a child is found dead, this is not a spoiler as it happens in the first chapter. I love the setting, creepy Victorian house, wired as a smart house. It’s fast paced, I read it in two sittings.

7. Someone We Know – Shari Lapena

There inst to much to say about this book other than I enjoyed it, and it was entertaining. I listened to it on audio in two sittings. This book takes place in a quiet subdivision where everyone knows everyone, there has been a string of break-ins. A teenager boy  has been sneaking into houses and hacking into personal computers.A woman down the street reported missing by her husband is later found dead. The book follows the lives of the people in the subdivision, a lot of secrets are discovered as the police investigate the death.

8.To Drink Coffee with a ghost – Amanda Lovelace

Amanda is the Queen of modern poetry! If you haven’t read any of her previous collection I highly recommend you read them all. She writes with such magic, that you can feel every emotion shes poured into her words. I have been following Amanda well before she wrote The Princess Saves Herself in this One and with every new book I fall more in love with her writing.  This collection really touched me, right off the bat I was crying. The poems are powerful and raw, about her complicated relationship with her mother. I really love the artwork scattered throughout the collection,it adds a wonderful touch. There is a series of trigger warning that are provided by Amanda at the beginning of the book, I will share them down below. I adored this collection, so sit down with a cup of hot coffee and read this masterpiece of a book!

Content warnings: (provided by author) child abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault, self-harm, violence, cheating, death, gore, blood, trauma, grief.

9. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- J.K Rowling

This is my least favorite of the books in the series, don’t get me wrong I still really love this book, but some of the content was not the best. This book is the turning point to the darkest side to Harry Potter’s world. This book picks up right after the events of Goblet of Fire, Harry just narrowly escapes death by Voldermort. The ministry is making him out to look like a fool, and the community believes that he is lying. Returning to school, the Ministry has appointed Dolores Umbridge to teach defense against the dark arts she is an absolute terror of a woman. This is an emotional book for Harry and you can really see how unhappy he is in this year,he is frustrated and angry. Yet he wants to do well in his classes as this is the year they must take the O.W.L’s. WE get to meet a handful of new characters in this novel, such as Luna Lovegood, I adore her! As well as many others; Sirius plays a big role in this book and the movies really did not do him justice.

10. No Exit – Taylor Adams

I was in a huge thriller mood, I still am, so I decided to pick up No Exit. This was not at all what I expected when I started this book. The story follows a college art student named Darby who gets caught in s blizzard on her way him to see her mother in the hospital at Christmas. She gets stuck at a rest stop, where she finds a little girl locked in s cage in the back of a truck. Meanwhile the kid appears are inside the rest stop. What I really enjoyed while reading this was its cinematic quality. This would make an incredible movie! The amount of pain and torture shocked me, I really wasn’t expecting it at all. However I’m a wired twisted person and I loved all it.

11. Truly Devious- Maureen Johnson

I’m honestly so mad about this book. Because I expected to enjoy this so so much. All my favorite Reviewers seemed to have loved it, but I found the story to be just okay. Maybe it’s because I read a lot of messed up adult thrillers that this book left me underwhelmed.I love the concept of this book, with the murders and the academy. But the execution is disappointing.

Tv Shows Watched in September

Gilmore Girls- Seasons 1,2,3

The Politician Season 1

Right off the bat it has checked all my boxes: a warning at the beginning about mental health, an amazing cast! I really just watched the entire first season of The Politician in two days. DAY. I NEED s2 immediately. Ben Platt is incredible; I love his voice and they included an original song. Jessica Lange is actually an icon. She’s literally the baddest bitch ever!!! Is there a role she can’t do.

Albums on Repeat

BTS: Perona, BTS: Love Yourself: Tear

Not an album but I must have listened to Chicken Noodle Soup -J-Hope and Becky G at least 50 times. Becky G & Hoseok was the perfect collab! I I love this song. Hoseok looks so good in this video, overall look but his dancing was just amazing as usual! But i felt the dancing in the MV was even more special to him & he just rocked it out with all he had. He’s just doing what he loves and he shines so bright, he’s so talented so charismatic.

A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Bridges Kemmerer

This was never a curse to be broken. This is a death sentence. The true curse has been the thought that we might find escape.

I really loved the Beauty and the Beast elements, in this book the prince doesn’t appear as a beast 24/7 but only changes at the end of the season if he fails to find love.Prince Rhen, must repeat the same season over and over, each time appearing as a different beast with no recollection if himself. Now after three-hundred seasons, this season will officially be the very last one.

“Words spoken in the dark in the middle of the night always feel so much heavier than they would at any other time.”

Harper – The Belle. Eighteen-years-old and from DC, she lives with her mother who is dying from cancer and a brother trying to pay off there fathers debt. She loves her family with her whole heart. Harper also has Cerebral Palsy, but she doesn’t allow her condition to slow her down. She is brave, empathetic and extremely tough. She is such a strong character physically and emotionally. One of the most powerful quotes is ” I was born this way…and I’m going to die this way, so teach me to work around it.” I loved her so much!!

Rhen – The Beast. The tortured Prince, he comes across as spoiled and arrogant. However as the story progresses Harper opens his eyes, to the man he could be. He is compassionate and patient. His character wasn’t as well developed as the others, but I can’t wait to see his arc in the sequel. As I mentioned above he only turns into a beast at the end of the season, if the girl does not gladly in love with him, I really loved that concept.

Grey – Rhen’s guard commander. He is the only one who has survived or stayed with Prince Rhen. I loved this character so much, easily my favourite. He’s hard but with traces of softness. He’s sharp, focused and loyal. I adore that man so freaking much and I love how hard he fought to help keep Rhen safe over the years.

Lilith – The enchantress. She is who has cast this spell on Rhen and his kingdom. This character very much reminded me of Ianthe, from A Court of Thorns and Roses. She is cruel and

Freya – She is a village woman who Harper befriends, she has a child of her own and she is also taking care of three of her sister’s children.

“I am always surprised to discover that when the world seems darkest, there exists the greatest opportunity for light.”

I love how Harper is from the modern world and these men are extremely confused as to what a cell phone is.I loved the world-building for this book and I can’t wait to see more in the sequel, which I have an earc of !! I’m planning on reading it in November if anyone wants to buddy read it with me.

This was a phenomenal Beauty and the Beast retelling that I couldn’t put down. I was grinning like fool the entire book, and I highly recommend it.

Content and trigger warnings for abduction, captivity, talk of cancer, loss of a loved one, murder, death, torture, abuse, sexual assault(from Lilith)

The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai

I received a copy of this book from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I am really loving all the adult contemporary romance books lately, and of course they all seem to have killer covers. The Right Swipe caught my attention with its bright pink cover and an awesome synopsis. This was also the August pick for the Dragons and Tea Book Club. This book was good but it didn’t blow me away, sadly to say its not a new favorite.

“Being vulnerable is a risk. Love—romantic, platonic, familial, it doesn’t matter what kind of love—is a risk.”

Ever since Rhiannon, left her old job on some bad terms, she has created a very successful dating app. She is very driven and has no time for relationships. She ends up having a one night stand with a man, and they agree to go on a second date. The day of the date she waits for him and hes a no show. So, she throws herself into her work, she attends a party for a competing dating app, to discover the man, Samson, is there new spokesman.

Rhiannon:  Our main character, she is a black woman, She is a very strong woman, intelligent, successful and independent. She runs a successful dating app with her best friend, she is determined to buy out the competing company.

Samson:He is an Ex-pro NFL player, despite his size, he is such a soft boy, he wants to find a great love but struggles with  modern day dating, and technology. He is patient and kind.

What I really enjoyed about this book was how real the character’s felt, the situations they were put in felt like it could actually happen. I liked Rhiannon and Samson’s connection, they have a really sweet romance. The story also touches on some tough issues such as workplace  harassment, abusive relationships, consent and sexism. It’s in-depth detail but it is touched upon, the way it is woven into the story makes it all the more real as these are issues a lot of woman face daily.

I only gave this book a 3.5 Star rating because it wasn’t mind blowing, even though I did really enjoy it. I am interested in seeing if there will be any companion books.

My Top Ten Gilmore Girls Episodes!

If you’re new to my blog then I’m about to tell you that Gilmore Girls is my favorite show ever. Rory and Jess are my ultimate ship, I love them both so so much! I first started watching this show when I was 13! I related to the characters so much and fell in love with the town of Stars Hollow. Honestly if it were a real place I’d move there in a heartbeat. I love to re watch it every year in the Fall, it’s just the perfect show in my opinion.

Trying to narrow down to my top ten favorite episodes of my all time favorite show it’s nearly impossible. For the most part this list reflects my favorites of the whole show. I could go on and on about how much I love Gilmore Girls, but I won’t so let’s get into the list! Just a warning if you’ve never seen the show and are planning to watch it or you’ve never seen all the seasons yet, there may be some major spoilers.

I’m also very bias towards Jess and I’m sorry if he’s not yours but I love him with my whole being and a lot of this episodes will feature him.

Okay, I could talk about this show all day, so lets get into my top 10 favorite episodes !

Top Ten Gilmore Girls Episodes

10. Lorelai Graduation Day Season 2 Episode 21

9. There’s the Rub season 2 Episode 16

Lorelai and Emily spend the weekend at the spa, while Rory is left at home. I really like this episode, we don’t get a lot of happy Emily and Lorelai moments. I love the moments at the spa but my favourite is when there at the restaurant. Then there’s Rory she only wants to stay home, do laundry eat Indian food. Her plans are derailed when Paris shows up in a panic over a test. Rory agreed to help her study, when Jess shows up with a ton of food. Seeing Paris he invites himself to stay and eat with them. This has to be one of my favourite moments, I love the three of the together. Things end badly though when Dean shows up to surprise Rory. They get into an argument and Paris saves Rory by telling Dean Jess was there to see her not Rory. Ugh my heart so good!!

8. A-Tisket, A-Tasket Season 2 Episode 13

It’s the Stars Hollow annual Picnic Basket auction, which by the way sounds amazing and I’d totally participate in this kind of event. It sounds like so much fun! Anyways, it was to fun for Dean when Jess outbids him. Rory and dean get into a heated argument when Rory agrees to have lunch with Jess as it’s part of the rules, Dean over reacts and says it’s because Jess likes her that he messed with him. This leads to an even bigger argument between Rory and Lorelai when she accuses Rory of spending to much time with Jess. Rory and Jess have so much more in common than with Dean, and they are so sweet together.

7. “One’s Got Class and the Other One Dyes” season 3, episode 4

Lorelai and Luke get ask to speak at Stars Hollow High career day. Things get a bit off track when the kids start asking about Lorelai being a teen mother. After the presentation some of the other mothers corner her and gives her hell about the topic of discussion. This episode also focuses on Lane, this happens to be my favourite Lane episode. She discovered her mother wants to send her to a religious conservative college, well she rebelled by dying her hair a bright purple. It looked amazing and seriously badass. In a moment of panic though she does it back to black. It’s such a fun episode.

6. The Bracebridge Dinner season 2, episode 10

This episode is centred around a winter themed event, haha see a pattern I love me a good festival. Sookie and Lorelai are palming a bracebridge dinner except they find out that the actors have been snowed in and are stuck in Chicago. Instead of cancelling because they already have all the food prepared, they invite the whole town to come and stay at the inn and participate in the dinner. Rory suggest they also invite Richard and Emily. Dean is visually upset when Jess arrives with Luke, believing that he can’t get away from the guy. Lorelai surprises the guest with a horse drawn sleigh ride. Which is perfect I love the sleigh rides, it’s so beautiful. When it comes to Rory’s turn Dean is with his little sister and Jess takes this opportunity to jump in the sleigh with Rory. I can’t get enough of Jess and Rory moments.

5.You Jump, I Jump, Jack season 5, episode 7

Originally I never liked Logan I thought he was spoiled and I am a Jess shipper so of course I was rooting for him. Upon my many re watches of the show Logan began to grow on me and I give this episode all the credit. Rory receives an envelope from the life and death brigade telling her to be blindfolded and ready to go. Logan and his friends pick her up and the venture off into the woods. I have to say this was a very pleasing aesthetic episode, Logan’s smile included! The next morning she is to put on a ball gown and head out to a field where there is a huge wall set up. On top of it are 4 people in tuxedos and umbrellas. Soon Logan and Rory join them as they jump from the top. This is such a powerful episode, where Rory relishes she needs to take more risks.

4. “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?”  Season 3, episode 7

Lorelai is determined to win the annual 24 dance marathon, she forces Rory into being her partner. During the whole even Rory and Jess can’t stop arguing with each other. Even Jess looking at Rory sets her off, a fact that is not lost on Dean. No longer being able to handle there obvious chemistry Dean breaks up with Rory right there on the dance floor. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it loudly for all of you that hasn’t heard that Dean is the absolute WORST! He could have taken Rory to have a private conversation but no he has to be a jerk and have everybody overhear them. At the end of the episode Rory and Jess finally admit to each other that they have romantic feelings for each other. This is one of those episodes where I love the crazy festival as the setting.

3. Nick & Nora/Sid & Nancy season 2 Episode 5

I really love this episode, this is where we get to meet Jess, Luke’s troubles 17 year old nephew. Luke has agreed to take Jess in and off his sisters hands. Lorelai offers Luke some parenting advice and invited them over for supper, so Jess can meet Rory. Of course the dinner didn’t turn out as planned Jess is moody and quiet, Rory finds him in her room browsing her bookshelves. Jess complains about wanting to leave and grand a beer from the fridge. Later on Jess is accused of stealing money for the bridge repaid. When Luke confronts him words are exchanged and in the heat of the moment Luke pushes Jess in the lake. This is the scene I most think of when I think of this show.

2. A Deep- Fried Korean Thanksgiving -Season 3, Episode 9

When I think of Gilmore Girls it’s always the holidays and festivals that come to mind. In this episode Lorelai and Rory are to attend 4 thanksgiving dinners. Starting with the Kim’, where Lane has gotten her mother to hire Dave to provide the music, Luke’s where they have dinner with him and Jess. With Sookie, where Jackson and his family are deep frying a turkey out in the front yard. Finally they end the night at Emily and Richards, Tory announced that she has applied to Yale. This is such a classic episode, Kirk also gets a cat who ends up scratching him to pieces.

1.The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale season 4, episode 2

After a lot of re watching I have decided that this is my favourite episode. Rory is moving into her dorm room at Yale with Lorelei’s help. I really love this episode as it’s a transition from Rorys teen life into her adult life. It’s her first time living away from home and everything she’s comfortable with. One of her roommates turns out to be Paris per her request, Rory is unsure of how living together will pan out. I absolutely love it, there banter and friends everything! But the gem of the episode is the Yale mattress, Luke unwillingly agrees to let Lorelai use his truck to move Rory but what he didn’t expect was it to returned with an old mattress. The whole exchange is hilarious, I love it.

This list was insanely difficult to pick only ten episodes as I wanted to include so many more. I really hope you enjoyed this post as it took me so long to write and search for the episodes I wanted to include. Let me know in the comments are you Team Jess,Dean or Logan?

August Wrap Up

Hello Friends !! I feel like August was the fastest month this year, it has gone by so fast. My goal in August was to read some ARCs and complete my book club picks, and I think I did pretty good.

One of my favorite things about August, especially towards the end of August, is how everything starts to slowly take on the autumny vibe. Grocery stores start to sell Halloween candy and themed treats. Department stores start to sell their autumn and Halloween decor. It just makes you feel all the more excited, even though Autumn is not quite there yet.

Anyways, onto the books I’ve read this month !

Books I Read This Month

Renegades by Marissa Meyer – DNF.

This was the book club pick for Its a Hardback life book club, and I didn’t make it past page 100. At the beginning of the month I was in the worst book slump and I really wasn’t enjoying this book. For the part of the book I read it felt like a very standard superhero tale that did’t do anything new. There was way to many character’s introduced too quickly with multiple names and secret identities, I had a hard time keep track of who was who. I felt like it was very info dumpy at times and other times it was so slow paced I had no interest in picking it up. I loved The Lunar Chronicles so I’m sad to say I couldn’t get into her newer series.

Naturally Tan by Tan France ★★★★

Tan France is one of five TV personalities from the Emmy-award-winning Netflix show Queer Eye. I feel like I should start off by saying that I love Netflix’s Queer Eye to pieces, and Tan is always one of my favorite guys on the show. I don’t tend to read very many memoirs, unless there by some of my favorite people. I find it really hard to rate non fiction, as this is about someone’s life, and how can I judge there experiences. So I tend to rate them for enjoyment, and I really liked this book. Tan’s voice is exactly how I imagined it would be, he is intelligent ,so sassy and his personality shines throughout the novel. He also doesn’t hold anything back, which I really appreciate

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer ★★★

Continuing on with my re-read of this series, New Moon was always my least favorite, but as an adult I enjoyed it a little more. Bella continues to make terrible decisions, and Edward is absent for most of the book. Jacob was never my favorite but this time around I really enjoyed his scenes.

Heartstopper Vol 1 + 2 by Alice Oseman ★★★★★

If your looking for a story that is heartfelt, cute, with beautiful art and the most lovable soft boys, then you need to pick up these graphic novels immediately! Guys, this comic completely melted my heart.

Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert ★★★★

This was one of my most anticipated romance books of the year and I am SO happy to report that I loved it just as much as I was hoping I would. This is the story of Chloe Brown, a thirty-one-year-old that when faced with a near-death experience, when she is almost hit by a car. Chloe soon after meets Red, a man who is extremely friendly and sweet. He gets on Chloe nerves so naturally a romance forms.I loved these two together they are adorable!! Honestly Talia Hibbert is becoming one of my favorite romance writers and I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future, so look out for those.

The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai ★★★★

I am really loving all the adult contemporary romance books lately, and of course they all seem to have killer covers. The Right Swipe caught my attention with its bright pink cover and an awesome synopsis. This was also the August pick for the Dragons and Tea Book Club. This book was good but it didn’t blow me away, sadly to say its not a new favorite.

A Lesson in Thorns by Sierra Simone ★★★★

This book was hella steamy and there was a lot of sexual group scenes. This is f/f, m/m, m/f, the author has stated that all six of these characters’s are bisexual, which I don’t actually see, some of them came across as pansexual to me while reading. This is ownvoices for the queer representation and the narcolepsy representation. This is also a very atmospheric book, I loved the moments where Thronchapel was described, there is also some magical elements which I loved so much. I’ve heard this book being compared to The Secret History and I immediately went out and bought a copy! This is a book about finding yourself and accepting who you are. This book was just so good, I couldn’t put it down.

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire by J.K Rowling ★★★★★

I am having such a great time re-reading these books via audiobook. This book has to be one of the darker books in the series, but it’s also my favorite. It has been my favorite ever since it came out,and it gets better with each re-read.The whole concept of the Triwizard tournament is amazing, and I love all the competitions. Ron got on my nerves at the beginning, but he got better as the book went on. I love all the creatures;Nifflers, unicorns, blast-ended skrewts, and dragons. I also love all the moment with Sirus and Dobby. The movies leave so much out, the book is 100 times better.

Feast of Sparks by Sierra Simone ★★★

This is book two in the Thornchapel series, and unlike the first book, I did not love this one. Everything that was good in the first book was stripped away in this sequel. This was a complete mess. There are some really questionable scenes, that left a really bad taste in my mouth. And I cannot get over that ending, its just so bad! I did still enjoy the characters and that is why I still gave this book a 3, I will probably continue with the series because I am really hoping the big reveal is a twist, and it ends up being something different.

Broken Knight by L.J Shen ★★

I think I’m the unpopular opinion here, most reviews I’ve seen has given this book high praise but it just wasn’t for me. This book follows Luna, she is a selective mute, which was really interesting. I really enjoyed her character, but she was also really frustrating at times. The love interest Knight, was such a jerk, when he was mad at Luna he would purposely try and hurt her, which is so not the right way to handle a situation. Knight and Luna had so much miscommunication, so many of there problems could have been solved with a conversation. I really disliked one sex scene, and Im really glad Luna stood up for herself afterwards. But it still made me feel really uncomfortable. This book is also really sad, Knights mother Rosie has CF and is really struggling. I have not read Ruckus yet, Dean and Rosie’s book, but I really want to read there story now.

TV Shows

Big Little Lies Season 2 – I love these character’s so much! Nichole Kidman is amazing and I lover her. The children are also such great actors already. I feel like this season really warped up the story, and I’m not sure how they will continue with another season if there is one.

The Handmaids Tale Season 1,2,3- This show, oh boy! Why have I not watched this until now. It is so freaking good! I binged the first two season in less than a week, I went a little slower with season 3 as I was almost caught up.

Albums On Repeat

BTS- Love Yourself:Answer and Tear, Forever Young. I love BTS. I really do. Their message, their energy, their music. They make some killer MVs, I love it all.

Taylor Swift Lover – This album is incredible! My favorite songs are Cornelia Street, Cruel Summer,False God and Paper Rings.

Well that’s all from me. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought. What was your favorite book you read in August?
