“I am the rock against which the surf crashes.”

Before we start, I just wanted to say, SJM seems to be an author that people love to hate. There has been a lot of hate and bullying going around the book community right now. Asking why people would even read her books, and I’m not here for that. If you have a problem with her or her readers just leave. No one is forcing you to read the books. She writes fun stories with characters who suffer from mental health, there not widely diverse stories but I love them.

On with the review!

Oh god! I can’t believe I finally have this book and can hold it in my hands. This book is 800 pages!! It is huge, the audiobook is 26 hours and at 1.5x speed I managed to finished it in three days. This book has become my favourite in the series right after ACOMAF!

A Court of Silver Flames is told from Nesta and Cassian’s point of view. I enjoyed seeing these characters from other perspectives other than just Feyra. As much as I love Feyre and Rhys, I grew to love Nesta and Cassian together just as much! Just a reminder that this is not a young adult book, it is new adult with sexual content.

At the end of A Court of Frost and Starlight, we see Nesta struggling. She uses everything and anything to drown out her depression and pushes the people who care about her away. She is hurting and she uses that to hurt the others. So Feyra and the inner circle have Nesta a choice start training with Cassian and work in the library or be dumped into the human realm. Of course Nesta dosent want to face her problems, her trauma is her own to confront and no one can force her to.

I wasn’t always a fan of Nesta, this book completely changed my opinion on her. She has always been portrayed as angry and hateful. When in reality she uses those resists as cooping mechanisms to mask her true feelings. ACOSF is an incredible journey of healing and self acceptance and learning to forgive yourself.

‘I wish for us to have the courage to go out into the world when we are ready, but to always be able to find our way back to each other. No matter what.’

The friendships that bloomed in this novel warm my heart. I loved meeting Gwyn, a priestess from the library, and Emerie, an Illyrian from Windhaven. They each help one another to grow and train. Gwyn is my new favourite character, I love her so so much! This series has always been about family, and Nesta’s new chosen family and friends.

Of course I need to talk about Cassian. I adore him. He is such a sweetheart for being such a big warrior. I love how he wouldn’t give up on Nesta despite how badly she treated him. He kept reaching out, and always first to defend her behaviour to the others. Ohmygodddddd I’m crying again just writing all of this. It’s hard to explain all my feelings in dept because I really don’t want to spoil anything.

“Your power is a song, and one I’ve waited a very, very long time to hear, Nesta.”

While this is Nesta and Cassians story, there are mentions of the other characters as well. My favourites being scenes with Azriel. I was hoping to see more of Elaine but she was barely mentioned. Maybe one the future we will get a book about her story.

I just want to quickly mention that this is an adult book, there are many smut scenes. So if that makes you uncomfortable then you have a fair warning as there is more than the previous books.

Now before this ends up any longer because I seriously could keep writing, I’ll end this here by saying, I LOVED this book so much! And I already cannot wait for more.
