A Curse So Dark and Lonely is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but it is much darker. I’ve seen this book everywhere and I’ve been really intrigued by it, but also intimidated as it’s very large. This book is so good, I flew through it in just two days, and this boy is quite chunky. I loved every moment. Beauty and the Beast if my favorite fairy tale,and I am so in love with this book. 

I really loved the Beauty and the Beast elements, in this book the prince doesn’t appear as a beast 24/7 but only changes at the end of the season if he fails to find love.Prince Rhen, must repeat the same season over and over, each time appearing as a different beast with no recollection if himself. Now after three-hundred seasons, this season will officially be the very last one.

➽ Harper – The Belle. Eighteen-years-old and from DC, she lives with her mother who is dying from cancer and a brother trying to pay off there fathers debt. She loves her family with her whole heart. Harper also has Cerebral Palsy,but she doesn’t allow her condition to slow her down. She is brave, empathetic and extremely tough. She is such a strong character physically and emotionally. One of the most powerful quotes is ” I was born this way…and I’m going to die this way, so teach me to work around it.” I loved her so much!!

➽ Rhen – The Beast. The tortured Prince, he comes across as spoiled and arrogant. However as the story progresses Harper opens his eyes, to the man he could be. He is compassionate and patient. His character wasn’t as well developed as the others, but I can’t wait to see his arc in the sequel. As I mentioned above he only turns into a beast at the end of the season, if the girl does not gladly in love with him, I really loved that concept.

➽ Grey – Rhen’s guard commander. He is the only one who has survived or stayed with Prince Rhen. I loved this character so much, easily my favourite. He’s hard but with traces of softness. He’s sharp, focused and loyal. I adore that man so freaking much and I love how hard he fought to help keep Rhen safe over the years.

➽ Lilith – The enchantress. She is who has cast this spell on Rhen and his kingdom.This character very much reminded me of Ianthe, from A Court of Thorns and Roses. She is cruel and

➽ Freya – She is a village woman who Harper befriends, she has a child of her own and she is also taking care of three of her sister’s children.

I love how Harper is from the modern world and these men are extremely confused as to what a cell phone is.I loved the world-building for this book and I can’t wait to see more in the sequel, which I have an earc of !! I’m planning on reading it in November if anyone wants to buddy read it with me.

This was a phenomenal Beauty and the Beast retelling that I couldn’t put down. I was grinning like fool the entire book, and I highly recommend it.
