Captain Marvel (2019) Review

Today I wanted to share with you another thing that I really love: Marvel movies. I am a huge Marvel fan, and I have been so hyped for this movie. Having a toddler makes it difficult to get out theses days but I had an opportunity to see this movie in the theater. This movie was amazing, and an excellent addition to the MCU. There aren’t words to describe just how good this movie was, but I’m going to try.

Captain Marvel is the latest superhero film based on a character featured in Marvel Comics also going by the same name. A quick synopsis: Carol, is a Kree warrior who finds herself in the middle of a war between her people and the Skrulls. During a mission to save an undercover spy ,she gets captured and taken onto the enemies spaceship. During her attempt to escape, she crash lands on Earth more specifically in LA. She keeps having glimpses of old memories of herself when she was younger.  With the help of Nick Fury she tries to uncover her past and find a way to end the war with the Skrulls. The majority of this movie takes place in the 90s, and the soundtrack was so good!

“You are Carol Danvers. You were the woman on that black box risking her life to do the right thing.”

Bri Larson is fantastic, I love her with my whole heart and soul! Her acting is exceptional, she really brought the character to life.  She is charismatic, witty and full of sass. I love how sarcastic Carol is, and the fact that she is so caring at the same time. She is such a powerful character, even without using her powers, she is a strong lead who does what she wants. One of my favorite things is that she became a hero due to her own actions, not because she was forced into the position. She controls her powers, that she was not born with, she has to learn to harness her abilities.Captain Marvel is the female superhero I never knew I needed.

We also get to see a young Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) , I really liked seeing him as part of the story. Seeing him back in the day before getting into deep with all the other hero’s, he is actually pretty funny and a really nice guy, before he grows into a brooding man in the future.  I really loved the friendship between Carol and Fury, as well as Fury’s interactions with Goose. Another character we get to meet is Maria Rambeau, a badass pilot who is also a single mother to a little girl. I really hope we get to see her again in future movies.

The Stan Lee Cameo was so sweet and I almost teared up. I absolutely loved Captain Marvel and overall it was so so so good!

  2. I LOVED Captain Marvel–I’ve been a long time fan of the Kelly Sue DeConnick run the movie is lightly based on and would highly recommend it if you wanted more of Carol’s adventures! Great review!
