The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

“Books were, and always would be, something a little magic and something to respect.”

I have been seeing this book all over Goodreads/ Instagram for well over a year now. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to pick up and read this book. I can now say without a doubt that it’s my new favorite contemporaries ever. I totally get the hype surrounding this book. It was so good, I couldn’t put it down and it’s just what I needed this week. This book centers around my favorite trope of enemies-to-lovers. It’s just so well done. This book was so funny with a ton of emotional layers.

Lucy Hutton is the executive assistant to one of the co-CEOs of a recently merged publishing company. Her nemesis and office mate, Joshua Templeman, is the assistant to the other CEO. Since they met they have hated each other so they have been playing these games to frustrate each other. When they find themselves up for the same promotion, things get way more tense between the two. But everything changes with an unexpected kiss!

“I’m going to destroy you. The Hating Game. You versus me. It’s the only way this can possibly end.”

The story is told from Lucy’s point of view, and she’s so adorable! She is funny and quirky. I loved her, she is such a relatable character. What I loved most about her is that she didn’t back down from Josh. She is fierce and spunky. I adored the banter between these too.

Josh is the complete opposite of Lucy, cynical and grumpy. But there is so much more to him, as the story unfolds. I loved his sweetness and the way he pays attention to Lucy. There was so much tension between these two, it’s just so good!

“When you get so little of someone, you take what you can get.”

This was an amazing debut novel! It was so much fun to read, and they are so cute my heart couldn’t take it. I finished it in just two sittings. I’m so excited to say that I was approved for an arc of Sally Thorns second novel 99 Percent Mine, I can’t wait to start it!!

If your looking for a fun fast read I highly recommend picking up The Hating Game!
