Synopsis
Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his
first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…
Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry
her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…
Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then
he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.
The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have
to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?
I wasn’t to sure what to expect from the book going into. I had read reviews saying that it was meant to be funny and you needed to be in the right mood. Well, I got about 10% in and I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed it, I wouldn’t say I loved it but I really liked it.My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows is the story of Lady Jane Grey. Jane was queen of England for nine days (July 10 to July 19, 1553) before she was overthrown and beheaded by Queen Mary I. This book is told from the point of view of three characters, Lady Jane, King Edward, and Lord Gifford (he goes by G in the book).
Character’s
Jane. She prefers books to people, so when her mother tells her she is to be married and within the week, well Jane is not to happy. I loved Jane’s character she was independent, strong, introverted and,a reader. She didn’t let people walk all over her just because she was a woman in this time period, she voiced her opinions.
Edward. He is the king of England,he finds out that he is dying and he names Jane the heir to the throne. Before that can happen though Jane must be married.
He was very funny, hopelessly romantic, and pretty likeable. His story was really fun to read about.
Gifford or G. The man that is to marry Jane. He has an interesting story, when the sun rises everyday he turns into a horse. G is possibly my favorite character as we also get to see his thoughts when he’s a horse. His chapter’s are hilarious and cute.
I loved the slow-burn romance between Jane and G, it was one of my favorite aspects of the book. I shipped them pretty hard and I’m sad that there story is done,I would have loved to read more about these two.
My Lady Jane was such a fun read and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is look for a light historical fiction novel with a touch of fantasy.
