Synopsis:

Remember, it’s only a game…

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away.

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world.

I have to start by mentioning the absolutely stunning cover. The dust jacket is simply beautiful. This book has been really hyped since before it was even released. I have had it on my shelf since January and Ive been in such a reading slump that it’s taken me this long to pick it up.

This book was just absolutely ENCHANTING! From the very first page up until the last, there was never a dull moment while reading Caraval. Garber’s writing sucks you into the story. There were just so many twists, turns, and puzzles that every page leaves you hanging at the edge of your seat. I LOVED the magical world that was created.

I fell in love with the characters too. The bond between the Scarlet and Tella was so strong and clear, it was as if their love for each other could overcome anything.I’m pretty sure I fell in love with Julian from the first scene.I thought he was well written and the perfect contrast to Scarlett. As the story progressed, Scarlett began to really grow and develop. There were times when I was frustrated with her decisions

Stephanie Garber is an incredibly talented author and this is a book that pretty much any age will love!! It’s hard to believe that this is a debut novel because it’s THAT good! This was definitely a quick read, I finished it in two days, as I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. I loooooved this book and I can’t wait for a sequel.
