You go through life thinking there’s so much you need…
Until you leave with only your phone, your wallet, and a picture of your mother.
Marin hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart
I wasn’t planning on reading this book but I had a credit for an audiobook and I needed something to listen to in between studying.I’ve never read anything by Nina LaCour before. I’m so glad I decided to give this book a try. I really really liked this story. It is so beautifully written,
It is a character driven story, about relationships and friendship Marin was such a lovable and angsty character and I couldn’t get enough of her. I could feel her loneliness and grief in her words. Her story is heartbreaking, but her growth as the story went on was incredible. It’s a short book but it gets the story across, if it was any longer it would have dragged on and ruined the feel of the book.
One of my favourite part’s of Marine’s story is the pottery shop, it was perfect. It’s exactly how I pictured a cute modern pottery shop.
This was my first Nina LaCour book and it won’t be my last.
I close my eyes, and I breathe her in, and I think about this home that belongs to neither of us, and I listen to the fire crackling, and I feel the warmth of the room and of her body, and we are okay. We are okay.
“And I think of how time passes so differently for different people.”
